The Principles of Pilates

Precision
All Pilates movements are exact, and involve precise actions and precise breathing.

Movement
The moves are slow, controlled and continuous and therefore require concentration and greater skill to do them properly.

Isolation
Pilates is about working on isolating muscles; although in practice all our muscles work together in groups. By isolation we identify our muscles for ourselves, especially the weaker, neglected ones. Pilates builds awareness of any imbalance in muscle strength or flexibility.

Routine
Pilates does not replace your current exercise programme, but rather compliments and enhances it by improving the way your muscles work together.
When you practice these principles you will improve muscle strength and flexibility, speed and skill and reduce fatty deposits. Your body shape will change as your muscles become leaner through regular stretching.
